Upcoming Marvel movies mean a potential bonanza for action figure collectors

Marvel Entertainment recently made a series of announcements regarding the release dates for a number of its self produced movies. They also announced some casting as well as a number of writers and at least one director for their future film projects.

The obvious good news here is for Marvel comicbook fans. However this is also good news for toy collectors as well as for retailers. These announcements mean that in the next couple of years we can look forward to a potential gold mine of action figure releases tied into the various upcoming Marvel film releases.

Marvel comics has produced so many iconic characters over the years that the imagination could run wild with all of the potential for decent figures to be released as toy tie-ins with the different movies. It is important to remember that not only will there be a large number of movies coming out in the next few years but that each film will have its own collection of supporting characters as well.

What this means for toy fans in general and Marvel action figure fans in particular, is that upcoming Marvel movies featuring well known characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Captain America, The Hulk, the Avengers and even Ant Man, will each offer an offshoot of characters that will most likely be very toy-friendly. Heck, with the Avengers, toy makers will be given an excuse to release the same characters all over again because of their potential return to the screen in that capstone Marvel movie. Not to be forgotten in all of this is the theme of Nick Fury and SHIELD being used in these films as well, which would give toy-makers the excuse to produce a bad-ass Samuel Jackson figure as well.

Along these lines, I have often found that the villain characters seem to make for the best figures in any series of action figures based on a licensed property. These films will hopefully be chock full of baddies. Of course there will be the potential for some interesting vehiles and playsets as well which could have the younger kids drooling. better start saving up now, though of course you have some time to save considering that the first of these in-house productions is not scheduled to hit theaters until 2010!
